Prof. Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem graduated MBBS in 1985 from Dhaka University. He did his Ph.D. in Surgery in 1993 from Univ. of Tokyo. His research was on the uses of lasers in liver surgery and he was awarded the ‘Resident Research Award’ in the specialty of General Surgery by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc in 1992.
Professor Dr. Nayeem worked with the pioneering laparoscopic surgery team in Japan led by Prof. Idezuki from 1989 and eventually pioneered laparoscopic surgery in Bangladesh in 1991. Presently he is a Professor of Mnimally Invasive Surgery in the the University of Dhaka and also the Chairman of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) in Dhaka.
Dr. Nayeem is a founding life member and presently a Governor of ELSA, founding life member and presently the President of Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Bangladesh (SLSB). He was nominated as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) from 1999 and received an award of ‘International Guest Scholar’ of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the year 2006.
He is a co-author of two books, in the editorial board of two leading journals in Bangladesh and author and co-author of more than 50 scientific publications in national and international journals.
