Dr.Ian graduated from Glasgow University in 1982 and commenced my basic surgical training locally. His subsequent Cardiothoracic Training was in the West of Scotland and Newcastle upon Tyne. Dr.Ian was appointed to a Consultant post at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1995 with a mixed cardiac and thoracic practice prior to relocating to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2018. Dr.Ian have had an extensive and varied surgical career including transplantation, aortic arch surgery, transvenous device extraction in addition to his thoracic interests.
Following a longstanding role in national surgical examinations, Dr.Ian was elected as the Surgical Vice President at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2011. Dr.Ian was subsequently appointed as Clinical Director of the Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre (CASC), a joint cadaveric teaching centre with the University of Glasgow. Dr.Ian is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and he was appointed as an Associate Professor at Glasgow University in 2016.
